New Equipment
The club
are pleased to announce that new floor mats have been ordered - they
are much needed and will be a big improvement on the current
ones. The extension to the tumble run and a new new tumble run
mat will be arriving any day now. We have also recently
purchased a vault run mat which arrived recently. We
have acquired a new set of GES bars and a tumble
track second hand but in good condition so the gym is
looking good.

Congratulations to Kayley Allen who has qualified as
a judge - her first competiton was the team comp at Heathrow on 11th

her exams in May. Congratulations to Matt, Kayley

Welcome
Back
Emma Kempton is now out of plaster and
joining training sessions. Alex Kitchin was also out of
plaster but seems to want to stay in it injuring herself again -
outside of gymnastics we should add!!
Coaching
Courses
It is good to see Lynn Dekkers,
Michelle Douglas, Laura Clarke and Jasmine Cardow going through
their paces to gain the appropriate qualifications. Lynn and
Michelle are 2 mums who recently took up the challenge to help with
training the gymnasts under our care and help plug the gap left by
Dave's retirement.
The End of an era!!
About 50
squad members, parents and committee members attended a happy,
noisy but somewhat tearful occasion at TGI Fridays Purley Way
after training on 16th December 2006 to wish Dave Harris fond
farewell on his retirement from his long serving involvement in
gymnastics having run the gym club since its move to Woodcote High
School 7 years ago. Dave had been brought back into gymnastics
through his daughters' involvement in the sport 20 years ago and had
served the London Gymnastics Federation as a Regional Judge for most
of that time. Such was his dedication that he was seen
repairing equipment just before his final training session
ended. He will be sorely missed by all but is keeping in touch
as webmaster of the gym club's website. A sample of the
afternoon in pictures can be viewed on the Retirement Page.
2007 sees the
club celebrating 40 years in gymnastics. Originally Croydon
Gym Club the girls' & boys' sections of the club ran in two
different schools but under the control of one committee. The
two sections parted company and we became known as Croydon Gym Club
for Girls. Dave was effectively our last link with that era
his wife having been on the committee at the time of the splitting
into 2 clubs. He has promised to provide some background
information, maybe some photos used on the 25th anniversary
occasion. Details of the Boys Club as it then was is on
the Croydon School of Gymnastics website.
Congratulations to Kayley Allen,
pictured below, who has been selected as the new face of
Milano and will be modelling the range of leotards and clothing in
their next catalogues and literature.
